Mailing List FAQ
How often will I receive emails?
If you sign up for the Weekly events list then you will receive an email once a week, usually on a Friday. Occasionally during clergy holidays a week may be missed, but we will try to avoid this.
Emails will be sent to other lists on a varying basis, and we will try and avoid sending more than one a week.
Why am I not receiving any emails?
It could simply be that no emails have been sent to the lists you signed up for. But there are other possible explanations:
- You may not yet have confirmed your address - click the confirmation link in the email you received when you signed up. If you have lost this email, follow the procedure below for unsubscribing, then try again.
- Perhaps the emails are being stopped by a spam blocker - make sure webmaster (at) st-thomas (dot) org (dot) uk is on your 'allowed' list. Chances are the confirmation email was blocked, so it may be a good idea to unsubscribe then sign up again.
- You may have unsubscribed from the list - if so, simply sign up again.
If you continue to experience problems, just contact the webmaster.
How do I unsubscribe from a list or subscribe to a different one?
To change the lists which you belong to, go to the address for user settings or preferences given in every email sent via the mailing list (usually at the end). To unsubscribe completely go to the 'unsubscribe' address. If you do this in error, you can easily subscribe again.
What do you mean 'go to the address' and why is this necessary?
Rather than give you a password, access to your user settings is only available via a unique web address - this means noone else can change your settings or unsubscribe you. In emails from the list you will see an address something like http://www.st-thomas.org.uk/mlp-g5x765v24djfg165498qgfl. In some email programs this will be turned into a link you can just click on. If not, you may be able to copy and paste the address and, failing that, type it in to the address bar of your browser. If this does not work, it may be because the address has gone on to a second line in your email window - if so you need to try again using the whole address.
How can I access the settings if I have deleted all my emails?
Simply click here, enter your email address, and you will be sent an email with these links straight away.
How do I change my email address or my user name?
To change the user name (which is really only used to introduce emails sent via the list), follow the user setting instructions. To change your email address, you will have to unsubscribe and subscribe again with the new address. If you can't unsubscribe because you no longer have access to your old address, send an email to the webmaster with the old address to be removed manually.
What is your privacy policy?
We will not share your address with anyone else or use it for any purpose other than that for which you have signed up (and there is no small print!). Read more here.
Why are the bible readings in the Weekly events email sometimes different from the ones used in church?
The Church of England uses the Revised Common Lectionary which is also used by the Roman Catholic Church and a number of other denominations. For not entirely clear reasons the C of E has decided to use different readings on a few Sundays of the year, mostly between Christmas and Easter, but the only online versions are for the unaltered RCL. Also the Roman Catholic Church in some parts of the world, including the USA where the online readings come from, has transfered some feast days (e.g. Epiphany, the Ascension and Corpus Christi) to the neartest Sundays, but we usually keep them on the original days.
