Covenant signing 'step in the right direction'

The congregations of our parish and the Cathedral Parish of St Mary and St Helen came together for a service to mark the signing of a covenant between the two parishes

The service took the form of a liturgy of the word for the Feast of the Conversion of St Paul. Members of both Youth Groups joined forces for a dramatic reading of the account of St Paul's conversion from the Acts of the Apostles. Both Parish Priests spoke about how significant this moment was for them personally and for the two parishes, and the hope they had for the future.

The signing of the covenant

After a reading of the commitments contained in the text of the covenant, the covenant was signed by Fr Bob White and Mr John Gowlett (PCC Lay Chairman) representing St Thomas', and Fr Bill Nix and Dr Graham Hillman (Parish Council Chairman) representing the Cathedral Parish.

The clergy of our parishes

The clergy of the two parishes already meet regularly, and are looking forward to deepening their relationship. (Left to right Fr Paul, Fr Matthew, Fr Bob, Fr Bill, Deacon Paul, and Fr Ossie).

As the first fruits of this new relationship, Stations of the Cross will be celebrated jointly on Friday evenings during Lent alternating between our two churches. The first Stations will take place at the Cathedral on Friday 8th February at 8.15pm. On Palm Sunday, our Holy Week celebrations will begin with a joint liturgy at the chapel ruins and a procession with palms down the High Street, before Mass is celebrated in our respective churches.

The text of the covenant can be found here.
